Trish Keenan from Broadcast Dies : January 2011

Broadcast singer Trish Keenan has died of complications associated with pneumonia, the band's record label announced today.

"It is with great sadness we announce that Trish Keenan from Broadcast passed away at 9am this morning in hospital," Warp Records said on its website. "She died from complications with pneumonia after battling the illness for two weeks in intensive care."

A co-founder of the British art-pop band, Keenan was earlier reported to have contracted the H1N1 flu virus along with pneumonia.

Warp added: "This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly – a unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being. Rest in peace."
Broadcast formed in Birmingham in 1995 by Keenan, guitarist Tim Felton, bassist James Cargill, keyboardist Roj Stevens and drummer Steve Perkins. They were praised for their retro-futurist sound, which gave Keenan's 60s-style vocals a synth-driven edge. The band's most recent album, a collaboration with the Focus Group, was released in 2009.
